TECH TIPS & RESOURCES

Remove a feature from a non-SolidWorks file:

Sometimes SolidWorks Feature Recognition fails to recognize certain features in an non-native part file. Don’t worry; there are ways to edit your imported parts.
> One way is to use Move Face. Move Face can be found under: Insert; Face; Move… Once this tool is open select the faces that you want to move you will notice you will get a selection help similar to FilletXpert. You can move the faces by Offset, Translate, or Rotate. If you choose Translate or Rotate you will see a triad appear. Right click on the center of the triad to move to selection or align to. Use your triad to drag the face to a new location or punch the movement in the dialog box.
> Another way to edit your part is to use Delete Face. Delete Face can be found under Insert; Face; Delete Face. Three options are available with Delete Face. Delete will remove the selected face and turn your part into a surface body. Delete and Patch will delete the selected faces and patch the area removed. Similar to Delete and Patch, Delete and Fill will patch the area removed but leave a new face where the model is patched.

Try these tools next chance you get. Just an understanding of this great functionality will certainly increase your SW experience.
