After disastrous tornados in Alabama last Spring, Wrangler (a division of our client VF Jeanswear) decided to rebuild their plant in Alabama and save the local jobs. We are very proud of their commitment to their employees, the local economy, and the community. It is easy to see why VF Jeanswear is deserving of the Client Spotlight. Tips From the Techs

Using the sketch mirror tool in SolidWorks:
Many users are already familiar with the way to use the mirror sketch tool to mirror items from one side of a line to another.  Typically, the user will  select the mirror sketch tool first and then in the first field in the sketch property manager select the items he/she wants to mirror, then the user needs to select the second field in the sketch mirror property manager to select the item he/she wants to mirror across.  This is easy enough, but a quick short cut is to pre-select... Understanding the sketch convert entities tool in 2012:
When converting entities in 2012, users will notice it behaves slightly differently than in the past.  It actually works very similarly to the way the mirror sketch tool behaves as described above.  If the user preselects the items before hitting the convert entities command, the convert entities dialog box will NOT appear.  To read the rest of the tip click here.

SolidWorks in the News

With software from Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corp., the Aerospace Engineering department at the University of Maryland's (UMD) A James Clark School of Engineering is taking flight one step further. The UMD design team is pursuing a different type of flight: a human-powered helicopter, which runs on energy generated by pedals. While human-powered airplanes have been around for at least a quarter of a century, human-powered helicopters pose a much bigger challenge, as they need more power for flight height and duration. For example, a 60-second flight pushes the limits of human endurance.

General Interest

Three members of the Lee College of Engineering’s new Engineers Without Borders (EWB) student organization took an exploratory trip to Peru in the summer of 2011, and identified a number of projects the group will be taking on over the next few years.

The team spent three days in the region of Parque de la Papa in a village called Paru Paru. The community president briefed the team on a series of potential projects intended to improve community conditions, as well as help build livelihood opportunities through sustainable tourism. The first was a series of five bridges on the road that leads into the community. During the rainy season, the people of Paru Paru are confined to the community because the roads are impassible.
